assemble music brings together four more producers at the forefront of todays fine minimal/house/electro scene. eklo boss seuil kicks things off with jam, a slowly-unfolding confection of metallic percussion and rolling bass set against a meditative, minor backdrop. his fellow half baked resident robin ordell brings a tipsy-sounding vibe to mobsiw, each element swaying its way around the others in an off-key dance. les points barbir adds detroit hats to a no-shits-given breakbeat and suspends it in time, before finally a 4/4 kick comes to put feet back on the ground. finally, traffic founders martyné and jacob draw on more contemporary breaks and electro influences on electronetto, with that laissez-faire swing with which their label has become synonymous.

as the summer closes and the autumn arrives the project releases its next selection with label boss frazer campbell and dark arts techno head stu crosbie. not a stranger to the label having appeared on the previous release stuart once again delivers his unique filtered sound of stripped back minimal techno with hints of trippy yet groovy influences of dark back room excursions. a real master of simplicity but exact definition of sombre sounds. the flip side presents a very different sonic description by frazer. bleeding gums holds broken beat kicks with rolling drums but as always carries a true sense of emotion and warmth. the ep closes with deebling mugs which is a production full of drive, dirty basslines and groove that will keep any dance floor moving as we wave goodbye to the summer of 2017.

h.takahashi, tokyo based architect and sound designer follows up his revered collection where to be? on where to now? records with raum, a full length lp suite of meditative pulse minimalism. raum draws its cues from a melting pot of closely connected yet wholly individual strands of minimalism - from the japanese minimalist works from the likes of hiroshi yoshimura and satoshi ashikawa, to masters such as erik satie and john cage, and ambient leaders brian eno and roedelius, takahashi soaks this historical influence and rings it out it through a modern filter to create a record of stillness, ethereal beauty, and transcendent energy. takahashi composes all of his music on his iphone, and this is no gimmick, rather a conscious decision which allows takahashi to constantly create on the go without the constraints of space, and for takahashi raum serves as a mediation on the relationship between sound and its environment. for takahashi this creative process feels something like an invisible phenomenon taking over & mutating these constantly changing spaces into abstract sound, creating a brief pseudo space which expresses and highlights the features of the environment for a moment in time. although perhaps quite an abstract statement of intent, when deeply immersed into takahashis pieces this idea of slowly gliding through different architectural spaces is naturally conjured through the gentle repetitive pulse which runs through his work and the playful unstructured tonality of objects which weave around this forward (or upward) motion. raum was created across the city of tokyo, be it a café / park / office / road / platform / subway these pieces explore the power sound holds to emotionally enhance and mutate the listeners environment. the power of the music presented is in that which is barely there, embracing space, silence, and cyclical repetition. the music is to help us function - it s music to work to, to sleep to, to help us find a sense of space and oneness within a world that is increasingly wild and untameable.

tomoki tamuras holic trax label has long been renowned as a canny exporter of clued in house and techno. their latest continues in this regard, as tamura again calls on a series of renowned label friends to bring the heat. with names such as mr.g, satoshi tommie and tuccillo all appearing it here alongside tamura himself, it s no surprise that this 3 x vinyl record, celebrating 5 years of the label, is filled with drama and high points throughout. this is immediately obvious from mr.gs soba shioyaki. titled in homage to the label s japanese heritage, it s a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. deep but tough, it s a perfect of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. gs komorebi- puts a tough emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here. ht24 comes from satoshi tommiie & tuccillo, two producers whose sounds are perfectly suited to holic s output. their four-track contribution starts with do it, a spiky catchy number that s exciting from the off. -what row- sees the boys inject some added funk into the equation, before to ray ups the intensity with a raw, pulverising aesthetic that takes no prisoners. wrapping up their side of the bargain is the digital only you know, a real bumper of a track with chicago-inspired synth stabs that help bring it to higher planes. it s the left to tamura himself to close the offering via ht25. a1, the appropriately named -5ive years is a techno workout of the type that s notable for its off-kilter motifs and a stubborn, industrial feel. unforgiving and full of atmosphere, it s the sign of a producer who clearly knows his way around he mixing deck. polyphonic six displays the producer s more introspective sound thanks to a melancholic perspective that s hard not to embrace. all things told, this is a wonderfully diverse package from tamura & co. here s to the next 5!

iron curtis back catalogue is a formidable beast within the realms of deep and tech house, touching on labels like morris audio, jackoff, sudden drop and mule electronique. he s intermittently popped up on hudd traxx as well, and he returns with a fulsome new ep that hints at a forthcoming second part.lights- is a bold, chiseled peak timer with some emphatic string stabs coursing through it, while captured takes a slinkier route without dulling the impact of the curtis studio approach. 22 days is a funkier concern that lets the low end synths do the brunt of the work, and then my humming machines rounds the ep off with a warm and bubbling deep house roller for a cosier part of the night.

dasha is back on sonic groove for her first outing on the label in six years. in this time elapsed dasha has released just two dance singles both some years ago. her last musical outing in 2015, is the stunning masterpiece experimental listening album entitled -sleepstep- on raster noton. now finally after a quite long hiatus from releasing dance music. dasha returns with -ain t no god nor king-, a four song extended play release . this deep minded, beat driven journey starts off with -katusha- a hard minimalistic, mesmerizing affair with strong delay effects on the kick drum forging a subconscious state of time and space as it echoes it way through mountainous canyons far away from civilization. next up is -dystopian drive-, a percussive song which brings an atmosphere of doom and gloom full on, with a gritty & stringent ebm bassline and tripped out layered acidic effects riding the thick bass waves. -black swan- takes it a few steps further into even darker dismal territories, a nearly nine minute journey which is a fitting sound track for surveilling a haunting post nuclear apocalypse scene from up above. -acid melancholy- is a 303 tweaked ambient sound sculpture with a metronomic pendulum rhythmic perc swinging back and forth which signals that time has run its course and the end is near.

as spring casts its glow over the barren and fissured valley, the whiskered sciurine known as rvs can be seen emerging cautiously from its burrow opening, out into the crisp hillside breeze. revitalised from her slumber, she lets out an abrupt and shrill chirp that seems to declare all at once, -it s party time and boy do i have a corker for you-, one that reverberates across the landscape permeating every bush, branch, pasture and crag, where lifeforms large and small may otherwise be spotted scuttling in their daily forage. the other beasts awaken, and realise that it is time . with some dexterity and slight of paw, the rvs rodent produces a shiny black disc from the folds of her fur and flings it high into the heights of valley, exploding into a rainbow bursting with every emoticon known to the internet, thereupon thundering the sounds of asadinho s when we come to it across the streams and tree-lines. commencing with the silverlining remix, then the original, then the track titled koppaitch, each member of the wildlife community remains hypnotised with this incomparable detonation of sparkle, rhythm, and the poetics of the mighty maya angelou. as the display descends into the foliage and dissolves away, the rvs scriurine pauses to compose herself then retreats to her work cave to get working on the next of these black discs and the wildlife convention she calls the rvs weekender.

the tenth output of invites choice records is another hard hitting banger made by border one.
drumrims straightforward four to the floor kick is accompanied by a hard hitting bass and a repetitive leadsound that evolves throughout the track. the overdriven hihats and rides combine well with the panicky sound. diffuse goes along with the flow set by the a1 track, yet has a bit more percussive feel to it due to the toms added.
hatchet on the b-side provides an aggressive kick and percussive elements. the sound evolves around one overdriven synth sound that drains you in to the track. perfect for fast transitions while mixing. copylust ends the ep a bit slower bpm wise, but emits the same energy as the previous tracks. straight-forward, hypnotising, hard hitting contemporary techno.

inner8 is daniele antezza, a multi-faceted thinker and electronic music producer, member of dadub duo, co-founder of artefacts mastering studio, dadub studio owner and holotone label manager, whose regular invocation of the term praxis begins to hint at his creative aims: a primary synthesis of contemplation and action that, in turn, encourages a secondary and entirely unpredictable set of syntheses dependent upon the listener s unique interpretation. though the inner8 moniker has been in existence for several years as a private nickname for, as antezza puts it, his -experimental anarchist sounds,- his recent releases are just now surfacing which will reveal just how much this project has to communicate.

nice price deal !!! following on from the in demand subliminal kid release earlier this year, this sick new ep from label boss matt o brien serves up a fulsome diet of deep, dark and mindbogglingly wonky house and techno, in a release that is the apex of matts production skills to date. kicking off, the aptly named gauntlet throws down fuzzily tweaked and flanged raw beats, married to dizzying, tremelous synths, darkside stabs and general dancefloor frenzy. dodaso flips the script, sounding like a million orthogonal genres colliding and combining in deep dub sub space, underpinning the delicate melody while splurges of colour obliterate your senses. this is very different to anything else out there and will appeal to a wide range of djs and floors. rounding off the ep, blackwood freestyle at first sounds deceptively simple, hiding its dark secrets like an insane clockwork puzzle, unfolding like hell raisers lament configuration with each listen revealing uni-maginable contortions that pull you further into the groove.

dutch producer sota is the latest to be snapped up by ornate music, presenting his second ever release having first come to light with his own talaman label earlier in the year. subsonica rides on a tough house groove, keeping the elements as spartan as possible while heading straight into the deep end of the night. inverse is a skippier affair that deals with heavily processed synth flares and a deadly swinging groove, and then chatka finishes the ep off with a dreamy cut peppered with delay processing for the quintessential dubby trip through refined 4/4 dance music.

having helped launch the sugarhouse label with his paradise forum brethren, jamie paul gets a chance to show off his talents on his debut 12inch, adding to the labels already impressive catalogue with another swathe of classy house jams with a modern twist. double g definitely sports the chops for the peak of the night, but it s also shot through with a welcome weirdness and a fuzzy warmth that should find favour with a wide range of djs. even so is a more laid back, bumping affair that matches the smooth finish of the a-side, but says something different altogether. label mate maurice jnr meanwhile serves up a remix of even so that nudges the delicate tones in a techier direction

dubtraxx is new on the scene, as is their label rhythm n vibe, but don t let that lull you into a false sense of security this is seriously heavyweight gear. soundbwoy request is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. towards 99 is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous a-side. the 2000 tribute mix of next millenium meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you d expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

fresh from an appearance on balearic blah blah, andi hanley sidles over to fellow mancunian ruf dugs ruf kutz label with some beautiful, sunkissed tones in mind to keep you gliding on the good vibes no matter how grim it may be outside. raffles is a gently pattering piece that seems to hark from the terry riley school of repetition, albeit played through blocky synth tones and delicate refrains. ba nou is a more flamboyant 80s-flavoured cut with some excellent tom fills, slick guitar licks and powerful brass stabs. syn-syn is a melancholic, borderline noirish synth ballad, and kinshasa heads for the dancefloor with its pronounced beat and canned funk sound.
